Looking Forward

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
~ Steve Jobs (Commencement address at Stanford University – June 12, 2005)

Connecting the dots is a simplistic analogy, but I gather what Steve Jobs was getting at. The path that the dots had in the past may be different than the path of the ones in your future, so you have to be willing to trust in something (gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever) that they will form a good path for you in the future. I think sometimes in my life I have tried to see the connected dots into the future based on the dots looking backward. It seldom works that way and Steve Jobs was correct I think in seeing something of reality in Looking Forward. You can only see the dots connected looking backward. His speech at the Stanford University Commencement address in 2005 is a good one and something to offer for a message this New Year (2014) too:

Here’s a link to the text of that speech: “You’ve got to find what you love

Happy New Year to everyone, everywhere, and as Steve Jobs advised “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish!” You never know where it will lead you in Looking Forward…
